Independent analysis
I wanted to buy a mattress, so I read every review
Mattress Skeptic is an independent read of what owners actually report — across Reddit, forums, retailer pages and video comments. No lab, no showroom, no sponsored verdicts.

The method
How every verdict gets built
Three steps, run the same way on every mattress, so two reviews on this site can actually be compared against each other.

1. Collect
Owner reports are pulled from every public source that carries them — never from a single retailer’s page, and never scraped from behind a login.

2. Sort
Each report is filed under the thing it describes — firmness, edge, heat, sagging, delivery, service — so one loud complaint cannot stand in for a pattern.

3. Score
The same criteria grid is scored every time, and the write-up says out loud where the sample was too thin to score anything at all.
Sources
Where the reports actually come from

Reddit and owner forums
Long-form threads where people come back months later. This is the only place the two-year report tends to exist, and it is weighted accordingly.
Retailer and marketplace listings
Useful for volume, weak on honesty. Counted, but never on its own, and incentivised reviews are separated out where the platform labels them.
Video comment sections
Under-read and often the least filtered of the lot. Comments describing an actual purchase get pulled; reactions to the video itself do not.
The brand’s own site
Read for what the company claims — trial length, warranty wording, return conditions — not for the ratings it chooses to display.
Other reviewers
Cited in one line when they corroborate something, always by name. Their measurements, footage and prose stay on their own site.
The grid
What gets scored, every single time
Firmness versus the label
How often owners describe the feel differently from the number on the product page — and in which direction the gap runs.
Support after the first year
Reports of dipping, softening or a visible body impression, dated by how long the owner had been sleeping on it.
Edge and motion
Whether the perimeter holds when you sit on it, and whether a partner moving is something owners keep bringing up unprompted.
Heat
Mentioned by a lot of people or by a few? Reported year-round or only in summer? The season attached to the report matters.
What happens when it goes wrong
Trial returns, warranty claims, who pays the shipping. The written policy and the reported experience are scored separately.

Independence
Nothing here was given to me for free
No free samples
No mattress on this site was sent to me, discounted for me, or slept on by me. Every page says so in the same words.
Every claim is linked
If a report is quoted, the source is one click away. Usernames are blurred; the wording is never edited to make a point land harder.
Frequency, not failure rates
Percentages describe how often something is mentioned in a self-selected sample. They are not a defect rate, and never get presented as one.
Limits
The things this site will not do

No claim of having tested it
I am an analyst, not a test lab. Nothing here is written as if I had owned or slept on the mattress, because I have not.
No invented owners
Quotes are short, verbatim and attributed to a real, findable report. Nothing is merged, tidied up, or written on someone else’s behalf.
No health claims
Comfort, firmness and lumbar support are described. Medical outcomes are not, in either direction, and never as a reason to buy.
No paid placement
Some links earn a commission if you buy. That is disclosed at the top of the page carrying the link, before you reach it — not in a footnote.
